Origin / Etymology
Multiple theories abound. One is that it is from Angloromani loli (“red”) + phabaj (“apple”); candy apples today are usually placed on a stick to keep the person's hands dry. Another is that it is derived from loll (“to dangle the tongue”) + pop.
